Sun Community School
The partnership between Cherry Park and Multnomah Family Service strives to impact the lives of the students, parents, guardians, teachers, administration, and the surrounding community in general by offering a variety of resources. These resources include an on-site after-school program, a family resource navigator, a weekly food pantry, and resource events such as clothing/food drives. For more information on these topics please see below.
After School Program
There will be three different sessions available throughout the school year.
Session 1 – October 3rd – December 9th
To register for SUN after school please fill out THIS FORM
Session 2 – January 2nd – March 10
Session 3 – March 27th – June 2nd
Session 1 information: Registration will become open and available beginning 9/13. Completing registration is not a confirmation of your student’s enrollment. Once you complete registration the SUN site supervisor will reach out with information letting you know if your student is enrolled or if they have been placed on a waitlist. Phone calls, emails, and letters in the mail will be the methods of communication used.
The session will run through the dates noted above. This is a Monday through Thursday program that runs directly after dismissal at 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Students may ride the bus or be picked up directly. The bus will leave promptly at 5:30 pm and take students to their designated stop. Pickup will begin at 5:20 pm. Timeliness and communication is very important. We understand unique circumstances arrive however, there must be communication taking place. In a situation of zero communication upon pickup by 6 pm will result in a call to CPS. This is absolutely the last option we would want to explore which is why it is so important to communicate a status update even if running late.
Activities offered throughout the session will include starting each day with a snack, physical stimulation, leadership classes, cooking/gardening classes, arts and crafts, and a variety of other options based on the skills of our staff and volunteers. Possibly the best thing of all when it comes to the SUN after-school program is that it is absolutely FREE. That’s right, no cost at all.
Jeff Boone is the SUN Site Supervisor. You can reach them through email at jeff.boone@mfs.email or phone at 503-902-8766 (call or text).
