Sun Community School
The partnership between Cherry Park and Metropolitan Family Service strives to positively impact the lives of the students, parents, guardians, teachers, administration, and the surrounding community by offering a variety of resources. These resources include a FREE on-site after-school program, a family resource navigator, a bi-weekly food pantry, and resource events such as clothing/food drives. For more information on these topics please see below.
After School Program
There will be three different SUN sessions available throughout the school year.
To register for SUN after school please use the QR code and directions on this form.
Session 1 – Fall – October 7-November 21
Session 2 – Winter– January 13-March 6
Session 3 – Spring– April 14-June 5
Session 1 information: Registration is now open! Completing registration is not a confirmation of your student’s enrollment. Once you complete registration the SUN site supervisor will reach out with information letting you know if your student is enrolled or if they have been placed on a waitlist. Phone calls, emails, and letters in the mail will be the methods of communication used.
The session will run for the dates noted above. This is a Monday through Thursday program that starts right after school and runs from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Students may ride the bus or be picked up. The bus will leave promptly between 5:20-5:30 pm and take students to their designated stop. Pickup will begin at 5:20 pm. Timeliness and communication are very important. We understand that unique circumstances arise, however, you must communicate if there are changes to how your child will get home (pick up instead of bus, being picked up early or late, etc.) In a situation of zero communication or pickup by 6 pm, policy requires us to contact CPS. This is absolutely the last option we would want to explore, which is why it is so important to communicate a status update even if running late.
Activities offered throughout the session will include starting each day with a snack, outdoor recess or gym, leadership, cooking, gardening, arts and crafts, sports/PE, science, and a variety of other options based on the skills of our staff and volunteers.
Amanda Price is the SUN Site Supervisor. You can reach them through email at amanda.price@mfs.email or phone at 503-902-8766 (call or text)
